Incolink provides members with up to $50 each for a simple prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test to detect prostate cancer – a disease that affects one in nine men in Australia. With 10,000 new cases diagnosed each year, prostate cancer is the most frequent and the second highest cause of cancer related deaths in Australian men. According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the Disease is treatable if detected early, with almost 100 per cent of men being disease-free after five years. The $50 covers the difference between the test bill and the Medicare rebate.
In 2011, Incolink extended the cancer screening rebate to its female members to undertake breast screening. This rebate is available to members under the age of 40 who can claim up to $50 each to cover the difference between the total bill and the Medicare rebate, in order to help with early detection of breast cancer. Women over the age of 40 do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses.
